MUN Session, Monday November 22

Hey guys. We will be having another session on Monday November 22nd, at 6PM. We will be debating on a new and fairly unique/creative topic. The resolution will be posted a few days prior to the day of the meeting. W should have a good turn out, and it should be a really fun and easy-going debate.  It will be held in Buchanan Room B313 (same one as always) from 6-730 (like always).

MUN Session October 18th

Tomorrow we will be having another debate, which will be on the impact on the economic recovery after the recession that non-market based currency policies have.

October 4th 2010: MUN101 and Regular Session

The UBC VC MUN will go into session again today, and we will be discussing an interesting resolution submitted by the United States of America on the threat of terrorist attacks in Europe.
For new and less experienced members there will be an informal training session about the MUN procedures as practiced by VC MUN an hour before the start of the regular meeting at the same location.

First Debate!

September 22, 2010

Our first debate will be held next Tuesday, September 28th at 6PM in Buchannon B313.  The first meeting is free for members and non-members, so come on out if you are thinking about the club!

The resolution for the meeting and more relevant information will be uploaded within the next 24 hours.

In the meantime, you can still find one of our executives or volunteer club members at our clubs day booth in the SUB across from Blue Chip Cookies on the main floor!



New year, new opportunities

This year, the club will be expanding, and as such, we need a few more hands on deck. There are two positions available from this fall onwards; the VP Marketing and the VP Conferences. Both of these positions will be working under the Vice-President, and can attend Executive meetings and voice their opinion. Both of these positions are hired, rather than elected, and so the term will last until the beginning of the next school-year. Excellent knowledge of and previous experience with Model United Nations is a requirement for both positions.

If you are interested in either of these positions, please send a resume outlining previous Model UN experience and position-specific qualifications to ubcvcmun.president@gmail.com, and we will get back to you regarding interviews. Please include full name and which position you are applying to in your mail.

Please note that in order to be considered for a position, a cover letter and a resume no longer than two pages in length is required.

VP Conferences

The main responsibilities of the VP Conferences include the logistics and organisation of all the events we will be holding beyond the regular weekly debates. This includes the public speaking workshop, the resolution/proposal writing workshop as well as a mini-conference to be held each semester. This position will also be responsible for deciding which, if any, national or international conferences the club will be attending. Key skills required are good communication with the rest of the executives, a good grasp of logistics and organisational skills, and preferably previous experience with organising events and people.

VP Marketing

The VP Marketing will be responsible for recruitment throughout the year, as well as advertising the events we will he having. The VP Marketing will be working closely with the VP Conferences in marketing the conferences and workshops, and also for attaining potential sponsorship of our events. This is a very important position, as our membership and event revenues will be crucial to what we are able to offer our members. Qualifications include excellent communication skills and previous marketing experience/skills.
